How they voted and what we do about it...
by TMedlin November 8th, 2009The House bill has passed. Some of our reps supported it, and some voted against it. We can’t use this single vote as a barometer.
We need to look at this vote in conjuction with other votes they have made, in order to make a decision about whether to fight to boot them out, or not. We need to know how they voted on TARP, the stimulus, the budget, Cap & Trade… I don’t have that data, but some of you probably do… at least the voting record of YOUR Representative.
So please post that info here, in the comments section, and I will try to compile a blog that gives everyone an overall view of what our reps are doing. We know that Pelosi has given some of them permission to vote against their party’s interest, in order to keep their seats in the House.
We also know that they are going to push for amnesty for illegals. If that passes, it’s GAME OVER! So we’ve got work to do.
The following tells the tale of the House Bill. Like I requested, please add other pertinent voting record info in the comments and I’ll compile a complete picture to be used to help us develop our strategies going forward.
The House vote -
01 G. K. Butterfield — YES
02 Bob Etheridge — YES
03 Walter B. Jones —NO
04 David E. Price — YES
05 Virginia Foxx —NO
06 Howard Coble —NO
07 Mike McIntyre —NO
08 Larry Kissell —NO
09 Sue Wilkins Myrick —NO
10 Patrick T. McHenry —NO
11 Heath Shuler —NO
12 Melvin L. Watt — YES
13 Brad Miller — YES
One last thought – we only have 2 Senators – Burr and Hagan. The Senate is the next battlefield. I hope the folks from across the state will be willing to ficus, in particular on Kay Hagan on the next couple of months. We need people at ALL her offices EVERY week between now and the time the Senate votes. EVERY week. Rolling Tea Parties circling her offices. Phone calls, faxes and emails…day in and day out. Please discuss this at your KTMS.

Drill
Petroleum is a major part of America’s energy picture. Shall we get it here or abroad?
By Sarah Palin
Given that we’re spending billions of stimulus dollars to rebuild our highways, it makes sense to think about what we’ll be driving on them. For years to come, most of what we drive will be powered, at least in part, by diesel fuel or gasoline. To fuel that driving, we need access to oil. The less use we make of our own reserves, the more we will have to import, which leads to a number of harmful consequences. That means we need to drill here and drill now.
We rely on petroleum for much more than just powering our vehicles: It is essential in everything from jet fuel to petrochemicals, plastics to fertilizers, pesticides to pharmaceuticals. According to the Energy Information Administration, our total domestic petroleum consumption last year was 19.5 million barrels per day (bpd). Motor gasoline and diesel fuel accounted for less than 13 million bpd of that. Meanwhile, we produced only 4.95 million bpd of domestic crude. In other words, even if we ran all our vehicles on something else (which won’t happen anytime soon), we would still have to depend on imported oil. And we’ll continue that dependence until we develop our own oil resources to their fullest extent.

Thank-you, President Obama. I think of my favorite hymn, Amazing Grace - "I once was blind and now I see".
I have lived a mostly apolitical life. Oh, I mourned the end of Camelot with the assassination of JFK, abhorred the arrogance of Richard Nixon, suffered the gas lines under Carter's reign, listened with hope to Ronald Reagan's speeches and despised the amorality of the Clintons. But still embraced no political ideology.
In 2000 I voted for George simply because I admired Barbara and he is her son. Newly retired, I then had time to closely follow the coverage of the "stolen election". "Count all the votes", the big Democrat lie, was the impetus for me to change my party affiliation to Republican. Eight years later, not proudly, I voted for John McCain.
Almost a year after the election, with Obama's relentless attacks on our Constitution, I am a rabid, "hate mongering", "lying", "racist", "violence inciting", on the terrorist watch list right winger. I have discovered Levin, Stehn, Rush, Beck, David Horowitz, The American Thinker, Imprimus, the Heritage Foundation and so much more. My "seasoned citizen" brain is overflowing with knowledge of czars, White House and congressional corruption, communism and radicalism in America and, most importantly, the founding principles of our great nation. Being informed isn't easy. I email and phone Congress and I worry about our future. Ignorance cannot be reclaimed. I once was an "in the closet" proud American. I am now a loud, "you will not destroy our country", flag waving, "save our Constitution" PROUD AMERICAN.
Thank you, President Obama.
Public Option Distortions and the Dangers of the Individual Mandate
by Bubba September 30th, 2009Steve Elliot, posting at ResistNet.com warns us that "The Left Is Distracting Us From The Real Danger Of ObamaCare".
"Their plan to sneak the public option into the final bill has already been hatched. And even worse, most conservatives are not yet focusing on the dangers of the individual mandate. "

North Carolina’s 2009 Tax Hike Unique in Southeast
by Bubba September 30th, 2009In a recent USA Today article summarizing how states balanced their budgets this summer, Vice President of the National Taxpayers Union Pete Sepp declared, "With a few exceptions, states have been able to avoid the doomsday projections that big tax hikes were on the way."
Unfortunately, North Carolina was one of those “exceptions.”
As part of the FY 2009-10 budget, North Carolina lawmakers introduced more than $1 billion in new taxes. Indeed, of the three major taxes typically imposed at the state level – income, sales and corporate – North Carolina managed to raise all three. Specifically, the sales tax was increased by a penny, and lawmakers created a “tax surcharge” to be levied onto the corporate tax and personal income tax of single filers earning above $60,000 and married filers earning above $100,000.
State lawmakers insisted that these steps were necessary to balance the budget. Apologists justify the tax hike by claiming that “everyone else is doing it,” and therefore North Carolina’s economic competitiveness will not be harmed. That’s not true.
A report from the National Council of State Legislatures (NCSL) shows that among southeastern states, North Carolina stands virtually alone in its decision to impose massive tax hikes to balance this year’s budget.
Recall that North Carolina raised all three major state taxes – sales, corporate and income. By comparison, no other southeastern state raised even one of the three major taxes in 2009.
The most significant tax raiser among other southeastern states was Florida, with about $1.2 billion in new taxes. Another billion was raised from increased vehicle registration fees. Bear in mind, Florida has no income tax. The other southeastern states imposed little or no tax increases on its citizens. States that did raise taxes merely introduced minimal, targeted tax increases - while not raising any of their major tax rates. Meanwhile, Georgia, Louisiana and South Carolina refrained from raising any taxes whatsoever.
Conversely, North Carolina imposed a laundry list of new taxes, including: a higher sales tax ($803 million), corporate and personal income tax surcharges ($196 million), higher “sin taxes” ($69 million), and the new “Amazon” and digital taxes ($12 million).
These developments show that North Carolina’s decision to impose massive tax increases to balance its budget was rather unique among states in the region. Aside from Florida, which was blasted by the bursting of the housing bubble, the next most significant tax hike in the southeast was a $200 million increase in hospital assessments in Alabama – a paltry amount when compared to North Carolina’s billion dollars in new taxes. Why did North Carolina resort to such measures when virtually the rest of the southeast didn’t?
North Carolina’s dependence on tax rate increases doesn’t bode well for the state’s economic competitiveness. Currently struggling with 11 percent unemployment – tied for eighth highest in the nation – the Tar Heel State’s economy was already weighted down by some of the highest sales, income and corporate tax rates in the region.
The new higher tax rates included in this year’s state budget will further highlight North Carolina as a high-tax state in a relatively low-tax region, further harming a state already struggling with a poor level of competitiveness. The Tax Foundation currently ranks North Carolina’s business climate a dismal 39th in the nation, the worst ranking in the southeast. Likewise, the Small Business & Entrepreneurship Council ranks North Carolina 39th in terms of entrepreneur-friendly policy environments, also worst in the southeast.
Indeed, state government’s past policies have harmed North Carolina’s economic competitiveness, causing us to be among the hardest hit states during this recession. Unfortunately, the new taxes will put us even further behind.
Rep. Patrick McHenry wants all 'czars' to testify
by Bubba September 9th, 2009From TheHill.com :
Rep. Patrick McHenry (R-N.C.) on Wednesday called for President Obama's "czars," or appointed high-level advisers, to testify before Congress about their "authority and responsibilities" in the executive branch.
The president's "czars" have become a point of controversy among his opponents because they do not have to be confirmed by the Senate as cabinet-level officials do.
McHenry wrote to committee chairman Edolphus Towns (D-N.Y.) and ranking member Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) asking the appointed officials to testify.
"If the czars have high-level, decision-making authority as their titles would indicate, then it is my concern that their appointment without Senate approval represents a circumvention of our Constitutionally-mandated confirmation process," McHenry, who is a member of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, said in his letter.
Czars were in the spotlight again after "green jobs" czar Van Jones' resigned this weekend. It was revealed that Jones made harsh comments about Republicans and signed a "truther" petition alleging that the government played a role in the 9/11 attacks.
"His ability to slip into a position of power without due Congressional diligence only further underscores the necessity for a confirmation process," the third-term Republican said of Jones.
However, the actual number of czars in the administration is a disputed matter. McHenry requests that all of President Obama's 44 czars testify before Congress. But other reports put the number at around 30.
The North Carolina Republican did not provide a list of the 44 czars he wants to testify.

Spoiled Brats in Charge
by Bubba June 30th, 2009Global Warming Skeptics Coming out of the Woodwork
by Bubba June 30th, 2009The Climate Change Climate Change
The number of skeptics is swelling everywhere
Among the many reasons President Barack Obama and the Democratic majority are so intent on quickly jamming a cap-and-trade system through Congress is because the global warming tide is again shifting. It turns out Al Gore and the United Nations (with an assist from the media), did a little too vociferous a job smearing anyone who disagreed with them as "deniers." The backlash has brought the scientific debate roaring back to life in Australia, Europe, Japan and even, if less reported, the U.S.
The collapse of the "consensus" has been driven by reality. The inconvenient truth is that the earth's temperatures have flat-lined since 2001, despite growing concentrations of C02.
The number of skeptics, far from shrinking, is swelling. Oklahoma Sen. Jim Inhofe now counts more than 700 scientists who disagree with the U.N. -- 13 times the number who authored the U.N.'s 2007 climate summary for policymakers. Joanne Simpson, the world's first woman to receive a Ph.D. in meteorology, expressed relief upon her retirement last year that she was finally free to speak "frankly" of her nonbelief. Dr. Kiminori Itoh, a Japanese environmental physical chemist who contributed to a U.N. climate report, dubs man-made warming "the worst scientific scandal in history." Norway's Ivar Giaever, Nobel Prize winner for physics, decries it as the "new religion." A group of 54 noted physicists, led by Princeton's Will Happer, is demanding the American Physical Society revise its position that the science is settled. (Both Nature and Science magazines have refused to run the physicists' open letter.)
Skeptics? I want to be more specific. I'm way past skeptic; Man Made Climate Change is a load of Bull Pelosi. This Democrat congress and administration intend to use it as an (lame) excuse to pass the single largest tax increase in the history of America.
If the American People Found Out ....
by Bubba June 28th, 2009"Suzanne", a female caller to Mark Levin's show on June 25th, revealed the ominous secret of the Democrat health care reform effort.
RED ALERT -- La Raza: "If the American people found out..."
Some key quotes from the linked article:
Sen. Robert Menendez, [D-NJ] promised that he would make sure that "the useless barriers of citizenship would not be in this bill"
"Latino children need health care more than whites".
"Useless treatments for the elderly can be gone because we don't need to spend money for people who are going to die anyway."
The author of the article, Doug Ross, suggests:
Contact Senator Robert Menendez at 202 224-4744, 973 645-3030 and 856 757-5353 and politely tell him we know what he's up to with this health care bill, that illegal immigration is not tolerated by the citizens of New Jersey, and that we will expose him -- as the anti-American traitor that he is -- to the public.
I would reinforce that suggestion, with the exclusion of the word 'politely'.
This ties in with my theory -
The Real Objective: Power
House Phone System Crashed. - RINOs do what RINOs do
by admin June 28th, 2009Callers against climate bill crash phone system
But they passed it anyway. The House phone system crashed. Because of the number of calls against the bill. But they passed it anyway.
They passed it with a margin of seven. Eight RINOs voted YES.
Did you know those 8 RINOs have 4 days to change their vote? Would you like to encourage them to do so?

Tea Party protesting Cap and Trade
by admin June 27th, 2009URGENT ACTION
Yesterday we were scammed by the House of Representatives, and despite the fact that we shut down the phones of virtually every Representative in the nation, they ignored us and voted for another bill which they haven't even read. H.R. 2454, The American Clean Energy & Security Act, previously named CAP & TRADE, passed with the assistance of eight Republican votes. The House added 300 pages early Friday morning, none of them read it, and they still voted for it. How much abuse will will we take from politicians that don't care about us any longer?
So, the question is, what are you willing to do about it? Do we have what it takes to stand up to our own government and tell them that we won't take it anymore? Do we have the genes passed to us by our forefathers, who risked their lives to preserve their freedom?
If you answered YES to these questions, join us TODAY, June 27th, at 5:00 PM, in front of Congressman Bob Etheridge's office in Raleigh at 333 Fayetteville St.
Representative Etheridge voted YES to this massive tax on American families, one that will cost every American family almost $2,000 per year in additional expenses through increased energy prices across all sectors -- and the vote is coming up in the Senate. By our actions today, our Senators WILL get the message.
UPDATE
CEI Releases Global Warming Study Censored by EPA
An internal EPA study was suppressed by the agency, it's author silenced and the report kept under wraps - because it's conclusions are contrary to the global-warming scam lines used by the administration and the dhimmicrat congress to ram the Scalp-and-Tax "clean energy bill" through passage.
In the Preface of the document titled Endangerment Analysis for Greenhouse Gas Emissions under the Clean Air Act, the following statement
"... we believe our concerns and reservations are sufficiently important to warrant a serious review of the science by EPA before any attempt is made to reach conclusions on the subject. We believe that this review should start immediately and be a continuing effort as long as there is a serious possibility that EPA may be called upon to implement regulations designed to reduce global warming."

Boehner Statement on Passage of GOP Proposal to Prohibit Miranda Rights for Terrorists
by Bubba June 18th, 2009WASHINGTON, DC – House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) today applauded passage of a House GOP proposal during consideration of the Fiscal Year 2010 Commerce, Justice, and Science Appropriations Act (H.R. 2847). The proposal, offered as a motion to recommit by Rep. Mike Rogers (R-MI), would prohibit any funds under the act being used to provide the rights Americans enjoy under Miranda v. Arizona by the Department of Justice, to terrorist detainees in the custody of U.S. Armed Forces in Afghanistan:
“Terrorists who want to kill Americans and destroy our way of life should not be granted the same rights as American citizens. I am pleased House Democrats joined Republicans to send a clear message to the Obama Administration that terrorists should not be given Miranda rights and an opportunity to take advantage of the U.S. legal system. As this legislation is finalized, House Democrats who supported this proposal must ensure it remains a part of the bill ultimately sent to the President’s desk. Let’s be clear: terrorism is not a law enforcement issue. That is a pre-9/11 mentality that helped pave the way for deadliest terrorist strike in American history, and granting terrorists Miranda rights would be a significant blow to our efforts to defeat the terrorist threat.”
NOTE: News reports recently noted that the Federal Bureau of Investigation agents have read terrorist suspects their Miranda rights overseas, at Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan and other places.
Revolution
by Bubba June 12th, 2009The following article is copied directly from Revolution by Herbert Meyer at AmericanThinker.com. I copy it in its entirety, it is too good to just excerpt.
During the last 30 years we Americans have been so politically divided that some of us have called this left-right, liberal-conservative split a "culture war" or even a "second Civil War." These descriptions are no longer accurate. The precise, technical word for what is happening in the United States today is revolution.
Because of our country's history, we tend to think of revolutions as military conflicts, and of the revolutionaries as the good guys; the image of Minutemen fighting valiantly against the British forces at Lexington and Concord lies deep within our DNA. But sometimes -- quite often, actually -- revolutions aren't military conflicts, and the good guys are the ones trying to keep the revolution from happening. In January 1933, Adolf Hitler was appointed chancellor of Germany by its elected president; he would spend the next two years consolidating his power with the legislative connivance of his political allies in the Reichstag. In October 1917, Lenin and his Bolsheviks took control of Russia from Kerensky and his Social Democrats -- who had overthrown the Czar earlier that year -- entirely through parliamentary maneuvering in Russia's fledgling Duma.
What defines a revolution -- and this is the crucial point to grasp -- is that when it's over a country has changed not merely its leaders and its laws, but its operating system.
Since most of us think of computers when we hear the phrase "operating system" let me use this analogy to illuminate my point: Every computer has an operating system, and most of us are using either the Microsoft or the Apple operating system. If you want to do something with your computer -- send an email, watch a DVD, read an online essay like this one -- you must do it the way your computer's operating system is designed to work.
No operating system is perfect, which is why Microsoft and Apple send updates to their customers from time to time. And every so often these companies launch new versions of their operating systems that incorporate a lot of modifications at once. Can you change the operating system you use? Of course you can. Two years ago I threw out every Microsoft-based machine in our company's office and replaced them with Apple products. Last month I met a corporate CEO who had just done the opposite, and replaced the Apple computers in his office with ones that run on the Microsoft operating system.
Democracies and Dictatorships
Now, just as computers have operating systems so too do countries. In fact, countries have dual operating systems - one political and the other economic. Broadly speaking, there are two kinds of each: Politically you can be a democracy or a dictatorship, and economically you can have either a free market or a command economy. Because countries don't buy their operating systems off the shelf, the way we buy our computer operating systems, each country develops its own versions. This is why our country's democracy is somewhat different from Canada's, which in turn is slightly different from Australia's, and so forth. These countries all have free-market economies, but again they aren't quite the same. Still, the similarities among democracies and free-market economies are more striking than the differences. Likewise, while no two dictatorships are the same, and no two command economies work in exactly the same way, the differences among them are comparatively trivial.
Since no country's operating systems are perfect, can they be improved? Of course they can. Every time our Congress passes a new law, or enacts a new regulation -- or whenever the Supreme Court issues an opinion -- that's the equivalent of an update to our political or economic operating system. Can you change a country's operating system? Yes, you can. And the precise, technical word for replacing one political or economic operating system with another is -- revolution.
When politics in a democracy is normal, the political parties all agree to preserve the operating system while they compete to improve it. This is what is actually happening when one party in Congress introduces a new piece of healthcare or education legislation and the other party opposes it or introduces its own healthcare or education bill, or when two candidates for the Senate argue over whether or not to change our immigration laws. Honorable people often will disagree about what to do -- sometimes quite strongly, just as the software engineers at Microsoft and Apple will sometimes argue through the night about whether a proposed change in the operating system's code is an improvement or just "kludge." But in normal politics the outer limits of all these disagreements are marked by a shared commitment to preserving and improving the operating system.
In abnormal politics, the objective of one party isn't to improve the operating system, but to overthrow it.

Wise Warning to America - from a Brit
by Bubba June 12th, 2009Socialism: Creating Future Voters On Your Dime
My friends in America; you are in dire need of a revolution. There comes a point where things become more than ridiculous, when things truly take a turn for the bizarre; I believe that Obama has taken you way beyond this particular point. What you are viewing in this video is about the lowest form of human manipulation than mankind can engage in. To prey upon, and exploit apathy, underachievement, and man's desire to get something for nothing in order to engorge the party with votes, is truly beyond the pale. The Marxists are actively waging war against the American way of life; they are currently winning. The question is, what are you prepared to do?

Stamp Of Government Wisdom
by Erika May 12th, 2009Email from a friend -
Stamps increased today to $0.44 for first class mail.
In 1919, stamps were $.02. If stamps had increased at the same rate as gasoline, stamps today would be $0.17.
If stamps had increased at the rate of consumer prices, stamps would be $0.25.
And now the government wants to take over health care to save us money?

Unintended Consquences of Not Thinking Things Through
by Mel Aben May 11th, 2009Ever wonder to yourself "What was this or that person thinking?"? I know I have and the truth is we can never know what someone is thinking or crawl inside of their heads. Besides the thought of someone rummaging through my brain creeps me out. However, it seems our government or at least persons within our government want to do just that. I have written a few times about the Hate Crimes Bill, HR 1913 and SB 909 (the Senate version). This would not only give an exclusive few special protections under the law, it would also enable folks to be prosecuted for speaking their minds because the government believes it can decide if speaking out against pedophilia and homosexuality are being hatefully, instead of a heartfelt belief. But let me add a couple of twists to this type of legislation.
The Cybersecurity Act of 2009 will allow the President to appoint a Cyber czar (what is it with all the czars suddenly?) who will then have the power to shut down the Internet during anything they deem a national security risk. I have also written about that one. But here is the twist that at least in mind makes the passage of the two above pieces of legislation much more diabolical either that or I am living in the land of paranoia (not comments on this one please
).
I found out over the weekend about a new piece of legislation, HR 1966, now this piece of legislation came about because of a tragedy. A young girl killed herself, Megan Meier due to being tormented online. Let me just say that should never, ever happen and we as parents need to keep a very close eye on what our children are doing on line, who they are talking too, what they are reading, what social networking they are involved in, because our world is fallen and our kids are the favorite target of twisted individuals. So maybe after reading my last statement you would wonder why I object to HR 1966, because here is what it says:
1‘(a) Whoever transmits in interstate or foreign commerce any communication, with the intent to coerce, intimidate, harass, or cause substantial emotional distress to a person, using electronic means to support severe, repeated, and hostile behavior, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than two years, or both
‘(b) As used in this section--‘(1) the term ‘communication’ means the electronic transmission, between or among points specified by the user, of information of the user’s choosing, without change in the form or content of the information as sent and received; and
‘(2) the term ‘electronic means’ means any equipment dependent on electrical power to access an information service, including email, instant messaging, blogs, websites, telephones, and text messages.’
So what that means at least in my mind combined with the Cybersecurity Act and the Hate Crimes legislation is that anyone who says, writes, blogs, texts, IM's, etc... that anyone anywhere finds objectionable or offensive can and will be prosecuted. It won't matter what context something was meant in, because it will be the idea that someone finds it upsetting and wants you to pay a price.
Now please understand that I find many things objectionable, however I am also quite aware that the 1st Amendment protection applies (see Wanda Sykes performance over the weekend). Additionally, I do not want to be subjected to the thought police, I want to be able to speak my heart without the fear that someone who hears or reads what I write who does not like it can have me arrested for a hate crime or some cyber czar can find my blog to be a national security risk and shut it down. What happens to the teacher who upsets his or her student or that student's parents? What happens to the neighbor who upsets the guy next door? What happens to the spouse who irritates her husband/his wife? What happens to the pastor who speaks against sin? What happens to the radio or tv talkshow host who offends someone in the audience? What happens to the blogger or newspaper journalist that offends their audience? The list is endless and the slope slippery and steep.
There are many pieces of legislation that start with a good intentions, I know that SB 909 was named for Matthew Shepard who died a horrible and tragic death, and that HR 1966 is named for Megan Meier who also died needlessly because of tormenting. However, if our legislatures no matter what their intentions are do not think through the consequences of bills then We the People will suffer the consequences. Again these 3 pieces of legislation when combined can be used and based on what we are seeing will be used to silence any and all dissent that is not politically correct.
Common Sense vs. Political Expedience
by Mel Aben May 6th, 2009There seems to be a serious lack of common sense inside the beltway. While I know for many of us this is not a huge shock it does lead into my thoughts for today. Shortly after being inaugurated and right before taking off on the world apology tour, Obama announced that within one year he would close Gitmo and all the terrorist would be tried in civilian court. Despite telling those who are knowledgeable about such things that he would wait to make a decision on this issue until he was up to speed and had all the facts, Obama decided to put political expedience ahead of common sense and placate his base. However, on Friday evening, when he always announces stuff he doesn't want anyone to pay attention too, he admitted that it was likely the military tribunals would resume, however there is no word on where if convicted these guys will serve their sentences. While common sense dictates that the guys at Gitmo cannot be tried in civilian courts, political expedience seemed more important for a time.
In almost the same breath however we are informed that our government is going to release 13 AL-Qaeda trained terrorist from Gitmo. They are encouraging them to settle in Northern Virginia and not only are they encouraging them to settle in Northern Virgina but We the People will be picking up the tab for their resettlement. Again political expedience is trumping common sense. On the world apology tour other countries let us know that they would not take the Gitmo detainees because they are dangerous to the populace. Yet in order to placate his base Obama is willing to endanger We the People.
Both instances illustrate that unless common sense returns to DC, We the People will pay an ever steepening price for political expedience. That is not the way this Republic was meant to work. I would like to know when We the People will take priority again.
Not just your Mom's animal shelter anymore
by Bubba May 4th, 2009Link: http://www.examiner.com
In an article on Examiner.com, Charlotte Gun Rights examiner Paul Valone reveals some startling facts about an organization that, till now, you probably trusted.
The Humane Society of the US, (HSUS) the national organization, is not affiliated and does not operate the local animal shelters with which it shares its name – something local volunteers are quick to point out when you tell them what you are about to hear.
“HSUS is big, rich, and powerful, a ‘humane society’ in name only. And while most local animal shelters are under-funded and unsung, HSUS has accumulated $113 million in assets and built a recognizable brand by capitalizing on the confusion its very name provokes. This misdirection results in an irony of which most animal lovers are unaware: HSUS raises enough money to finance animal shelters in every single state, with money to spare, yet it doesn’t operate a single one anywhere.”
Go. Read the whole story, and note the list of legislations sponsored by HSUS in the General Assembly of North Carolina.
Details, Details, Details
by Mel Aben May 4th, 2009Link: http://avoiceformoms.blogspot.com/2009/05/details-details-details-84365.html
Imagine for a moment that you were a lawmaker and were presented with a bill that if passed would be become law, and part of the text of the bill stated:
(a) Prohibited Activities- A participant in an approved national service position under this subtitle may not engage in the following activities: (1) Attempting to influence legislation. (2) Organizing or engaging in protests, petitions, boycotts, or strikes. (7) Engaging in religious instruction, conducting worship services, providing instruction as part of a program that includes mandatory religious instruction or worship, constructing or operating facilities devoted to religious instruction or worship, maintaining facilities primarily or inherently devoted to religious instruction or worship, or engaging in any form of religious proselytization.
Would you vote for it? Would you want to send this to the President's desk for his signature? If you were President would you sign it? Well this particular wording was in a bill, H.R. 1388 otherwise known as the G.I.V.E. Act (Generations Invigorating Volunteerism and Education), it was passed in the House and Senate and on April 21, 2009 the President signed this bill into law. It has me believing that many of our legislators do not read these bills. Or if they do read them do not comprehend what the wording actually means or understand the Constitution of the United States which is despite much gnashing of teeth by some the law of the land.
This law is scary because not only does it prohibit first amendment protections of the participants, it also creates a National Civilian Defense Force. Now before we go any further let me just say Congress did have the sense to strip the Mandatory provision from this bill, yes the original intent was to force all 18-25 year olds participate in this "Volunteer Brigade". But there has already been a study commissioned by Congress to look into whether MANDATORY SERVICE would be beneficial to the youth of America. Based on the make up of the House, Senate and White House I am betting it won't be long before Mandatory becomes the law of the land. There is also a provision in the Bill for Middle School and High School Students to join in.
This law will cost WE THE PEOPLE $5.7 Billion over 6 years in dollars but will cost the youth of this country much much more. This I believe is where we as parents and US Citizens need to say enough and we need to say it loudly and with conviction. The final Bill was passed in the House with a vote of 275 to 149 and in the Senate 79-19. The only saving grace for this law right now is that Congress has not funded it. I pray that remains the case.
The American Left attempts a bloodless coup

From an article by Sandy Rois at OneNewsNow.com
excerpt a ....
Saul Alinsky, radical of the '60s, author of "Rules for Radicals" who was all about taking power, suggested that you target your opposition, make it personal and destroy him. Recent decades have seen this play out in the demonization and ruination of a host of people. They weren't killed, but they were in essence destroyed so that no one in the mainstream culture would ever again listen to or heed their advice. Richard Nixon...Oliver North...Clarence Thomas...Dick Cheney...Tom DeLay...George W. Bush...Sarah Palin. Have Americans stopped to think that these destroyed people are all on the political right? Have they noticed that Bill Clinton and Ted Kennedy and Barney Frank still walk among us, exercising influence, with whatever reputations they have in tact?
excerpt b ...
Now the president, however coyly, and the Democratic leadership, boldly, are seeking to prosecute the last administration for political disagreements by calling them crimes. They want to punish Bush officials who gave legal advice and permission to proceed with interrogation techniques including water boarding that documents show most assuredly saved American lives.
They have released top secret documents, jeopardizing American safety further by making the people who protect and defend us worried sick both for fear of retribution and the very real potential harm that could be done to the nation as a result.

Andy McCarthy's Fabulous, Gutsy Letter to Attorney General Holder
by Bubba May 1st, 2009Andrew McCarthy, who is editor at National Review Online, former attorney in the US Attorneys office, the Southern District of New York, which is Manhattan, was invited by Eric Holder, the Attorney General, to participate in a meeting, a justice department meeting with Obama's task force on detention policy, and he has declined this invitation in a letter.
The Honorable Eric H. Holder, Jr.
Attorney General of the United States
United States Department of Justice
950 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW
Washington, D.C. 20530-0001
Dear Attorney General Holder:
This letter is respectfully submitted to inform you that I must decline the invitation to participate in the May 4 roundtable meeting the President’s Task Force on Detention Policy is convening with current and former prosecutors involved in international terrorism cases. An invitation was extended to me by trial lawyers from the Counterterrorism Section, who are members of the Task Force, which you are leading.
The invitation email (of April 14) indicates that the meeting is part of an ongoing effort to identify lawful policies on the detention and disposition of alien enemy combatants -- or what the Department now calls “individuals captured or apprehended in connection with armed conflicts and counterterrorism operations.” I admire the lawyers of the Counterterrorism Division, and I do not question their good faith. Nevertheless, it is quite clear -- most recently, from your provocative remarks on Wednesday in Germany -- that the Obama administration has already settled on a policy of releasing trained jihadists (including releasing some of them into the United States). Whatever the good intentions of the organizers, the meeting will obviously be used by the administration to claim that its policy was arrived at in consultation with current and former government officials experienced in terrorism cases and national security issues. I deeply disagree with this policy, which I believe is a violation of federal law and a betrayal of the president’s first obligation to protect the American people. Under the circumstances, I think the better course is to register my dissent, rather than be used as a prop.
Moreover, in light of public statements by both you and the President, it is dismayingly clear that, under your leadership, the Justice Department takes the position that a lawyer who in good faith offers legal advice to government policy makers—like the government lawyers who offered good faith advice on interrogation policy—may be subject to investigation and prosecution for the content of that advice, in addition to empty but professionally damaging accusations of ethical misconduct. Given that stance, any prudent lawyer would have to hesitate before offering advice to the government.
